The originators of woodworking in China are thought to be ancient carpenter Lu Ban and his wife Lady Yun between 700 BC and 400 BC, or the ‘Autumn and Spring Period’. Interestingly, Lu Ban is also thought to have introduced grappling hooks and the wooden bird to China. Lady Yun is credited with the invention of the umbrella, created to aid her husband’s ability to work in the rain.
